How Do You Read An Elliptical Review?

  1. Start with the overall score, which runs from 1 to 5.
  2. Find the category that matters most for you, such as comfort or noise, and read its score.
  3. Skim the pros and cons for the compromises.
  4. Look at the label next to the score to see how much testing supports it.
  5. Compare two ellipticals on the same 6 categories.

What Does Each Score Mean?

  • 5.0: delivers everything the manufacturer says, with nothing we would mark down
  • 4.0: strong, with one limit that shows up in regular use
  • 3.0: does the job and asks for compromises
  • 2.0: has shortcomings you would feel in everyday use
  • 1.0: fails a basic expectation or ships with a defect

What Do The Score Labels Mean?

  • Scored: we tested it hands-on, or a named independent tester did, in all 6 categories.
  • Capped at 4.5: a single session, or under 1 hour of testing, limits the score to 4.5 until a second session or an independent test backs it up.
  • Not yet scored: we cannot give an honest number yet, so none is shown.
  • First Look: an upcoming or just-launched elliptical covered with confirmed specs only.
